A 2025 creation

Theatre director Lena Paugam orchestrates the encounter between the dancer Thierry Thieû Niang and the non-verbal, autistic poetess Babouillec. A hypersensitive dialogue that makes light of silence in a language all their own.

Dreamy UFO sprang from the desire to bring together Thierry Thieû Niang and Babouillec, whose story became known to the general public through Julie Bertuccelli’s documentary Latest News from the Cosmos. Diagnosed as nonverbal autistic, the author has expressed her spiritual vision and powerful style in a variety of texts, ranging from poems to novels to essays, some of which have already been adapted for the theatre. Lena Paugam instead invites spectators to a different kind of experience here, on that is based on the amusement of the two performers and their desire to present themselves together to the audience. The work explores the time that each person takes to listen, look, feel, and meet the other. How does Babouillec describe the distance that separates her from us? How can what runs through her writings be expressed in the present? Funny, enigmatic, brimming with intelligence and sensitivity, these two actors fulfil Lena Paugam’s promise to transform the stage into “an echo chamber that lets us hear the muffled sounds of the world”.
