Since 2013, La Villette has hosted one of the most prestigious battles: the International Illest Battle brings together the best Krumpers on the planet for a series of jawdropping shows. The worldwide final is not to be missed for any reason!

Popularised in Rize, David LaChapelle’s documentary film, and more recently in Les Indes Galantes, the opera staged by Clément Cogitore, krump unites the Madrootz collective under the leadership of Grichka Caruge. Born in the new millennium, this dance form provides people with an outlet for the violence they suffer in the poorer neighbourhoods of Los Angeles, which dancers express in battles that are conducted according to very precise codes. Demanding in terms of their physical and emotional effort and tension, Krump’s gestures are instantly recognisable from its expressive theatricality.
