Hip hop choreographer Mourad Merzouki returns to La Villette to present a double-faceted choreography imagined for Brazilian dancers. As part of the Kalypso festival, it’s an open invitation to enjoy the mad race of the Correria, and Agwa’s astounding urban acrobatics.

The Show

As the spearhead of the hip hop revolution in France, Mourad Merzouki met young dancers from Rio de Janeiro in 2008. He instantly wanted to create something with them. A few hundred shows later, this double-sided choreography remains massively powerful and entrancing.

An exciting race, Correria is all about survival in all its states, all about explosive bodies : Mourad Merzouki grasps the daily concerns of these Brazilian dancers and transcribes into dance their life in the present with their dreams. Agwa is a hymn to water, symbolized here by cups lined up in an astounding, urban, acrobatic act. It’s also a bit of activism. In their own way, the soloists here draft a new world. The dance is a give and take.
