Du 30 March au 3 April 2016

Inspired by Kubrick, Hitchcock, and Carpenter’s films, Horror is a fantastic visual show that borrows from the genre’s nearly universal elements: the supernatural, terror, and humour. Jakop Ahlbom toys with our basest emotion: fear. But beware, dear friends, here you are not at the movies !

Netherlands • creation 2015

An old house is haunted by one family’s tragic history. One of the daughters ran away, but what happened to her sister? Once back home, in the abandoned house, accompanied by her boyfriend and another friend, the young woman is faced with her past. In no time at all, a flood of memories swirls in her mind, dredging up strange and worrisome events. The only way to survive is to confront the terrible truth.

With Horror, the theatre drags us into illusion and dark humour, all the while paying tribute to horror movie classics. Jakop Ahlbom comically and poetically brings our greatest fears front and centre stage; and suddenly there we are in an unreal and horrifying world. A complex story with muddied truth that anyone could wind up experiencing.

Born in Stockholm in 1971, Jakop Ahlbom studied mime the Amsterdam Theatre School where he won the Top Naeff prize in 1998. He then worked as a performer, choreographer, and director with artists and companies such as Karina Holla, Nieuw West, De Groep van Steen, and Het Ro Theater. In 2000, he brought his first personal creation to stage, Stella Maris. Since 2009, Jakop Ahlbom has received support from the Dutch Performing Arts Fund and the city of Amsterdam. His productions have been noticed by the Dutch Festival Theatre, the Salzburger Festspiele, the GREC Festival Barcelona, and Mimos Périgueux. After his play Lebensraum won a prize in 2012, Horror won the VSCD Mime Prize 2015 attributed by the Dutch Theatre.
