Setting off in search of a mysterious creature, our two protagonists travel a road strewn with pitfalls and surprises. The Fish Who Lived in the Trees … is an epic in which animals and humans harmonise their language and dance with one another.
The choreographer Sylvain Riéjou and draughtsman Hervé Walbecq sketch out a world together in which our senses become the arbiters of our decisions. In this zany universe where humans and animals become mistaken for one another, the non-verbal slowly gains ground over our words, and sensory stimuli slowly rise above our sense of reason. Like an animal, bodies in movement become a language, and dance becomes a means of communication. Drawings of animal silhouettes appear with which the performers play and interact. From a forested landscape to a beach of hot sand, their epic takes us from a smell to a sound, immersing us in sensory contemplation. There are no technical displays, just a white space as a surface onto which we project our imaginations, with poetic freedom as the guest of honour.
