20 & 21.05 · JOHAN BICHOT / CIE OCTOBRE 82 · Glissement Opus 2· ARTISTS INITIATIVE
In this metaphysical farce, Johan Bichot plays a character almost
out of a silent film who debates the world around him, condemned
to trying to catch objects that nevertheless slip out of his grasp,
without really knowing why. He employs a treasure trove of
gestures, acrobatics, and precariously balanced constructions
to clutch malleable clay cubes suspended from hangers. A
humorous pursuit of a grail that makes for a stunning
choreography.
Tue 20 & Wed 21.05 at 8:00 p.m. · Estimated duration: 1 hour
23 & 24.05 · ELODIE GUEZOU / CIE AMA · (Dé)Formation Professionnelle
Contortionist Élodie Guézou explains how and why she bends over
backwards, literally and figuratively. In this piece combining
contortion and theatre, her story incorporates fragments of her
own life, dialogues, performances, and scientific insights. They
say everything about a journey punctuated by challenges and
sacrifices and pushed to the point of exhaustion and a
breakdown. This proves the starting point for this offbeat
examination of our relationship to our work.
Fri 23.12 at 8:00 pm , Sat 24.12 at 6:00 pm. Duration 1h
27 & 28.05 · KAMMA ROSENBECK ET QUENTIN FOLCHER / COLLECTIF MAISON COURBE · Le Paradoxe des jumeaux · ARTISTS INITIATIVE
Quentin Folcher and Kamma Rosenbeck explore our relationship to
time in a work where circus, dance, and the visual arts coexist.
One person evolves suspended mid-air while the other remains
on the ground, balancing on their hands. There in lies the
paradox: These twins will not have the same experience of time, nor
will they age at the same rate. Movements in slow-motion,
that have been accelerated or suspended, with clear or gradual
stops, render this distortion palpable.
Tue 27 & Wed 28.05 at 8:00 p.m. · Estimated duration: 50 min
3 & 4.06 · ANNA TAUBER ET FRAGAN GEHLKER / L’ASSOCIATION DU VIDE · Suzanne : une histoire du cirque
In its description of Anna Tauber’s encounter with a 1950s
circus acrobat, Suzanne: A History of the Circus is a
captivating inquiry in the form of a dialogue as she
reconstructs her act with modern-day acrobats. Alone on
stage, accompanied by a film (composed of archival footage,
interviews, images, and sounds recorded with a mobile
phone), Anna combines her story with that of Suzanne and the
contemporary circus to offer a documentary performance and film
as fluid as it is moving.
Tue 3 & Wed 4.06 at 8:00 p.m. · Duration: 1:20
