A musical performance for toddlers, Bricolo resuscitates the art of Charley Bowers, a genius of silent film from the 1920s. By playing with the codes of cinema and theatre, the film-concert opens up a world of zaniness where inventing the unbreakable egg and the non-slip banana does not lie beyond reach.
Fascinated by the world of cartoons and American silent movies, Joachim Latarjet and Alexandra Fleischer pay homage to the unbridled imagination of Charley Bowers, a contemporary of Charlie Chaplin and a genius of unheard-of tricks. On the screen, the real freely mingles with the fantastical. On stage, the musician and the singer mirror the stunts performed by this hero of the burlesque. Bricolo is a mad inventor unafraid of attempting the impossible to make the world more beautiful, or funnier. Unable to grow cats on trees or birth cars from eggs, he tries to invent a pre-set shoe to learn to dance the Charleston. In delighting in the originality of this Ubu-esque character, Bricolo asks us to think about dreams and the impossible through its blending of cinema, theatre, and music.
