Written and performed by the students of Studio 7 at the École du Nord, Tragedy offers a portrait of a generation who has to repair and reinvent everything, a kaleidoscope of perspectives, experiences, and voices on the ruins of our catastrophic world.
Out of the wreckage of a crashed airplane fuselage climb sixteen young actors and actresses who between 2021 and 2024 studied at the École du Nord, the Lille Dramatic Arts School, under the direction of David Bobée. Against the epic breadth of this stage setting, their story is not about an air disaster. It is instead an examination of their place in this world that they have inherited. Tragedy is the thesis performance envisioned with four of their classmates who composed the fragmentary text and together with whom they prepared the show. For the stage directors David Bobée and Éric Lacascade, this represents a passing of the torch, as they began their careers by writing for the stage. The times and the worlds they have imagined have changed, and the play gives a voice to a new generation, to its specificities, its view of the world, and the way it joyfully and inventively inhabits and changes it.
